We can't go back and change the beginning… but we can start where we are and change the ending.

Unhealthy habits creep up and catch us out. We've all got patterns and cravings that trip us up – there are too many to count! It’s easy to find ourselves stuck in a rut with no plan to get out. Your health matters. Better health matters.

Kickstart your health

There's never been a better time to kickstart your health. Excess weight makes it harder to fight off nasty illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, and respiratory viruses.

If you're living with obesity, contracting viruses and infections could mean that you're twice as likely to be hospitalised. Extra weight means extra pressure on your body. Reduce your weight to reduce your risk. Eating well and moving more will change your future. A healthy BMI is between 18 and 25. What’s yours? Find out now with our lifestyle assessment.

Wake-up shake-up

Paul woke in a hospital bed having suffered a heart episode while celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday. “Obese and alcohol abuse were the words on my hospital release note that struck me between the eyes.” Paul took control of his lifestyle and now feels happier and healthier than ever.

Paul's story

Surprised myself

Georgina put off losing weight till she’d had her third child: “My anxiety was through the roof; I was barely able to leave the house. I was in denial - I didn't realise how unhealthy my lifestyle was. In January last year, I decided to make a change. I've lost five stone, discovered activity I enjoy and have overcome anxiety. It’s amazing how quickly you can reverse things."

Movement moment

Lockdown was good for getting us to take steps to move more. A million people tried couch to 5km, and there was a bike-boom with many people dusting off old bikes. People were surprised by how able they were to start and sustain new physical activity habits. We want to keep this momentum going!

It is never too late to get active to improve your health, so start small and build up starting from 10 minutes of brisk walking a day.

Let's do this!

How does this work?

The tailored approach LiveWell Dorset uses to come up with solutions to the things that are stopping us achieving our goals, is based upon work done by University College London developing the COM-B model of behaviour change. In this model, all behaviour is influenced by understanding a person’s capability to change, their opportunity to change and their motivation to change. By understanding which of these is the biggest barrier to change, we can tailor support accordingly. This model of behaviour change is at the centre of the support we offer, online and in person.
