Monday - Friday 9am - 6:30pm

We're inviting you to #JoinMe in embracing Dorset’s great outdoor spaces and getting active with your friends and family.

After the festivities of December, the new year can sometimes leave us feeling flat. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Getting some fresh air, doing some exercise and spending some time with loved ones can do wonders for your health and wellbeing. And it’s easy to make it part of your daily life.

Any type of activity is good for you. Some is better than none, and more is even better! Could you go for a brisk 10-minute walk, three times a day? Could you try couch to 5k? Could you try your local parkrun? You don't have to run!

Win a season ticket to your local country park!

The competition has now closed! Thanks for your interest. We'll be in contact with the winners soon.

Try parkrun

Your nearest parkrun

There are a huge number of things you can do, and many are free, easy and don't require any special clothes or equipment. Why not try:

  • Heading to one of Dorset’s country parks for an active day out with family
  • Asking a friend to start Couch to 5k with you
  • Trying your local parkrun on a Saturday morning
  • Going for a brisk walk at the beach with the dog
  • Visiting one of Dorset’s amazing National Trust properties and enjoying to beautiful grounds

Being active can reduce your risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer by up to 50%. Research shows it can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing your risk of stress, depression, dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

How active are you?

Completing this survey from Active Dorset will help you to think about how much activity you do now and where you might be able to make changes, helping you to move more and feel better.
The other bonus to completing the survey is that you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win one of five £50.00 Amazon vouchers! The survey will only take a few minutes to complete.

How does this work?

The tailored approach LiveWell Dorset uses to come up with solutions to the things that are stopping us achieving our goals, is based upon work done by University College London developing the COM-B model of behaviour change. In this model, all behaviour is influenced by understanding a person’s capability to change, their opportunity to change and their motivation to change. By understanding which of these is the biggest barrier to change, we can tailor support accordingly. This model of behaviour change is at the centre of the support we offer, online and in person.
