Coaching at LiveWell Dorset

An overview of LiveWell Coaching

Making a healthy lifestyle change can be tough. That's why here at LiveWell we want to support you on your journey to healthier living. Our Coaching service offers that bit of extra support you might need to take the first steps. Here's some information from one of our coaches to show you how it works:

The basics

You can access coaching by registering with LiveWell Dorset, either online or by calling us. Coaching takes place 1:1 over the phone. Each session lasts for around 20 minutes and we offer up to six sessions. The timings of the sessions are flexible to suit your needs the best we can.

First steps

An important first step in building a healthy lifestyle is knowing what you want to achieve. As a coach, I’ll help you to explore where you are now, where you want to be and set a realistic goal.

We recognise that making a change can be challenging, and there are usually things that get in the way of reaching our goals. I'll help you to identify what your biggest challenge is, and from there we can work together to find ways to overcome this.

Ways forward

An essential step to achieving your goal is to plan how you'll get there. In our coaching sessions, we’ll work together to come up with a plan for how you might best overcome the challenges you face and take steps towards healthier living. You're the expert in your own life, while we coaches can offer support, bring a different perspective and help you to clarify things in your mind. This will give you the best chance to make a strong plan that will help you succeed.

Helping you take control

With the support of a coach, we hope to see you start to transform your life and take control of your health. The power is in your hands to build a healthy lifestyle, and coaching can help you to unlock that power. During our last couple of sessions, I'll help you to plan for the future and make sure you have the best chance possible of maintaining the healthy changes you've made.

That said, our door is always open and you can return to the service later if you need further support. If we think this isn't the right service for you or we are unable to help with your needs, we'll let you know and do our best to connect you with the right support for you.

How does this work?

The tailored approach LiveWell Dorset uses to come up with solutions to the things that are stopping us achieving our goals, is based upon work done by University College London developing the COM-B model of behaviour change. In this model, all behaviour is influenced by understanding a person’s capability to change, their opportunity to change and their motivation to change. By understanding which of these is the biggest barrier to change, we can tailor support accordingly. This model of behaviour change is at the centre of the support we offer, online and in person.
