Don't skip breakfast

What’s your excuse to skip breakfast? Too busy? Looking after others? Overslept? Not hungry?

Not eating breakfast could be harmful to our bodies. Studies show that there are several important reasons to eat breakfast every single morning, no matter how busy you are and even if you aren't very hungry.

Eating breakfast helps you manage your weight

If you are looking to lose weight or maintain recent weight loss, eating breakfast is crucial. Eating a small, sensible breakfast will help you curb hunger throughout the day. Having good, wholesome food in your system means you're less likely to reach for unhealthy snacks throughout your day.

Eating breakfast gives you energy

At risk of stating the obvious! You need all the nutrients present in a healthy breakfast to help you stay active through your day.

Eating breakfast makes your thinking sharper

Being alert and attentive during the day requires brain fuel! Certain breakfast choices are proven to give your brain a boost; they help you go about your day with more clarity and awareness.

Eating breakfast fuels you with good stuff

A healthy breakfast will deliver much-needed vitamins and minerals to your body.

Eating breakfast will make you less hungry throughout the day

This is especially important for those who are watching their weight and want improved health. Eating breakfast makes you less likely to overeat and consume more calories than necessary through your day. Overeating throughout the latter part of the day is directly related to weight gain.

Eating breakfast every morning sets a good example

This is important if you are caring for others. Setting a healthy example for children is important to their health and awareness as they grow. Demonstrate the importance of healthy eating by not skipping the most important meal of the day.

Hearty Hydration

Don’t forget, our bodies are 70 per cent water! Hydrating first thing in the morning will give your body the boost it needs to start the day. Try drinking a glass of water or two with your breakfast – you’ll feel the benefits.

How does this work?

The tailored approach LiveWell Dorset uses to come up with solutions to the things that are stopping us achieving our goals, is based upon work done by University College London developing the COM-B model of behaviour change. In this model, all behaviour is influenced by understanding a person’s capability to change, their opportunity to change and their motivation to change. By understanding which of these is the biggest barrier to change, we can tailor support accordingly. This model of behaviour change is at the centre of the support we offer, online and in person.
