A walk and some fresh air can do wonders. This October, Steve, from LiveWell, invites you to join his group walks and discover the power of walking together.
Did you know that walking can have a positive impact on our mental health? Getting out for a stroll can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression whilst also improving our overall mood and self-esteem. Walking is a great way to clear that dreaded brain fog and can help our sleep quality. What’s not to like?
And there’s more… walking with other people does wonders for our mood. By having a chat or simply strolling alongside one another, walking helps us make those much-needed social connections.
For many of us, it’s difficult to find the time or the people to walk and talk with. This means we can feel quite lonely, especially those of us who live in the Dorset countryside! We’re excited to be teaming up with Dorset Council’s Dorset Health Walks who are an accredited scheme run in partnership with The Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, to support men’s health across Dorset by providing a space for men to walk and talk. Whether you’re a ‘stroller’ or a ‘strider’ or just wanting to meet for a cuppa and a chat, all men are is welcome.
As men, we’ve often tried to bottle up our emotions, turning a blind eye to how we’re feeling. It might be pride or fear of judgement that has stopped us from talking but, the strongest thing we can do is express how we’re feeling. Many of us don’t even know where to start with finding the right words but walking can help that. We aren’t supposed to have all the answers, and we certainly aren’t supposed to be strong all the time. So, let’s get walking.
Weymouth beach walk! Meet us on the promenade between the Jubilee Clock (DT4 7BE) and Prom Café at the advertising drum. The walk is a 45-minute flat route, perfect for all levels. Afterward, feel free to join us for a drink and a chat at Sandbar.
Shillingstone trailway walk! Join us at the Black Cat Café (DT11 0QP) for a scenic 45-minute walk along the gently undulating Shillingstone Trailway. After the walk, we’ll return to the café where you can join us for a drink and a catch up with fellow walkers.
All abilities are welcome - whether you’re a seasoned walker or fancy a gentle stroll. The pace of the walk is completely flexible, and no one's left behind. In fact, the speed is officially set by the rear walker, so there’s no need to worry if you prefer a leisurely pace or a good natter along the way. Walks usually last around 45 minutes, giving you plenty of time to stretch your legs without feeling rushed.
Dogs are welcome on a discretionary basis so give Steve a quick shout before bringing your furry friend along.
There’s no need to sign up or book, just let Steve know you’ll be there by contacting him beforehand on 07974 964482 and turn up on the day.
We plan to continue the series of men only walking events so keep an eye out for future dates and locations to be announced.
