  • Walking Football

    Football

Walking football is different to regular Association Football in many ways and is aimed at the over 50’s age group. Many tournaments are now catering exclusively for the over 60’s age group.
It has very specific rules that outlaw all running and allows either no contact or only minimal physical contact between players. Over-head height restrictions and indirect free kicks ensure that the sport is played safely with full consideration to the participants’ age.
Teams are either 5 or 6-a-side. As a result of these rules, games are played at a slower pace, often on state of the art 3G artificial grass pitches, thus reducing the threat of pain, discomfort and injury, with players briskly walking through matches. This allows people who have loved the sport all their lives to once again safely get back to playing and also introduces the sport to people who perhaps have never considered playing before.

    Walking

Nordic walking has many benefits and can easily be incorporated into a person’s lifestyle. There is no age barrier. It can vary from a recreational and social activity to a more challenging walk enabling participants to increase their sporting performance.
As an instructor John always aims to motivate individuals to achieve their personal goals, and in doing so, gain the full benefits whilst having fun.
He works closely with the NWUK team of instructors and walk leaders who between them offer a range of walks to suit all levels of an individual’s fitness. Living in Swanage he is ideally placed to lead walks throughout the Isle of Purbeck. Regular longer walks to explore other parts of Dorset are also on offer.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU

How does this work?

The tailored approach LiveWell Dorset uses to come up with solutions to the things that are stopping us achieving our goals, is based upon work done by University College London developing the COM-B model of behaviour change. In this model, all behaviour is influenced by understanding a person’s capability to change, their opportunity to change and their motivation to change. By understanding which of these is the biggest barrier to change, we can tailor support accordingly. This model of behaviour change is at the centre of the support we offer, online and in person.
